CAP Services Appointments Available for Free Tax Filing Assistance

Appointments Available for Free Tax Filing Assistance
With tax season just around the corner, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is once again gearing up to offer free tax assistance to Waushara County low- and moderate-income individuals and families.
CAP’s trained and certified volunteers help prepare tax returns for individuals and families with income below 200% of the federal poverty level. Federal and State income tax return preparation is available at no cost.
“We make sure our customers get high-quality, professional service,” said Connie Henn, CAP’s VITA Program Coordinator. “Our trained volunteers are equipped to identify tax credit and refund opportunities that put money back in the pockets of families who need it.”
Taxpayers who utilized CAP’s program last year saved an average of more than $220 in filing fees. All told, households in Waushara County saved $52,000 in fees and received more than $322,000 in federal and state refunds.
“CAP will file your return electronically directly with the IRS to ensure the speediest processing available. No one can issue a refund faster than the IRS, so beware lenders and tax return preparers who promise refund-related loans and services,” said Connie Henn. “We’re here to help, and we’re dedicated to helping as many community members as possible.”
Low- to moderate-income individuals and families can call 1-800-660-5430 to determine eligibility and schedule an appointment to have their taxes prepared and e-filed for free. Households that do not qualify for in-person appointments may also choose to file online for free at MyFreeTaxes.com. There is no income limit to use MyFreeTaxes.com for households with simple tax returns.
CAP Services, Inc. is a private, nonprofit community action agency that has been advancing social and economic justice for people and communities in Marquette, Outagamie, Portage, Waupaca and Waushara counties since 1966.

Black Hawk Folk Society Concert Line-up

All day
February 1, 2020
Black Hawk Folk Society proudly announces its winter-into-spring Second
Saturday concert schedule.
FEBRUARY…..Dangerous Folk, a Milwaukee trio will take the stage Saturday, February 8.
Doug Esty, Julie Thompson, and David HB Drake combine forces to
reinvigorate the classic folk tunes of the 1960’s and 70’s. The answer’s
blowin’ in the wind, indeed!
MARCH……And blowing in just in time for the Ides of March: Triflemore, on Saturday,
March 14. A transatlantic folk duo—one from the remote isles of Scotland
and the other from small-town America—these musicians bridge the
distance with their own delicious blend of progressive, Celtic, and British
Isles folk.
APRIL……..K.G. & the Ranger will be the night’s entertainment on Saturday, April 11.
Hailing from Madison, WI, they have performed throughout the United
States and are loved for their ability to bring cowboy heroes and the Old
West back to life with their music!
MAY…….Mean Mary returns to Black Hawk’s roster on Saturday, May 9. Wikipedia
sums her up as “an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist,
novelist, producer, and YouTube personality.” You’re invited to come see
and hear for yourself!
These five Second Saturday concerts will be held at Mountain View
Community Center, at N3137 21st Lane, near the intersection of 21 st Lane
and Highway 152, near Mt. Morris and Wautoma. General admission
tickets will be sold at the door from 6:30 on, with the concert beginning at
7:00. (Adults: $10; 12 and under: free). Concert-goers are invited to begin
the evening by joining the performer and other music lovers at a potluck
supper at 6. Mountain View is handicap friendly and offers plenty of free,
on-site parking. Black Hawk Folk Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and is completely volunteer-driven. The organization’s mission is to bring quality live folk music to central
Wisconsin. Black Hawk thanks all donors and especially the following
sponsors whose support makes this Second Saturday concert series, and other events, including educational outreach programs, possible: Louise Coumbe, Patricia Grant, Janet Scalpone, the Dick Hansen Family, Paul & Betty Hagan, Conners/Barrett & Company LLC, Mt. Morris Mill Coffee Shop, and The Frey Family Foundation.
