Accident Victim Fondly Remembered

An official with ADVOCAP says the death of a 61-year-old Ripon man in a farming accident this week is tragic news for anyone who knew him. Robert Kallio was the former director of the Ripon Children’s Learning Center. Hillary Gunther is the Director of Head Start and Family Development for ADVOCAP. She says Kallio had several roles with ADVOCAP. “He was the program director for education and training programs and then recently he came back to work with our Head Start program as our curriculum and school readiness manager and we just learned this week that he had passed.” Gunther says they send their thoughts out to family and friends of Bob Kallio during this really difficult time. She says they really miss him and thought extremely highly of him. He died after a tractor he was working on rolled over and trapped him beneath it.

Tight Job Market Challenging

An official with Alliance Laundry Systems in Ripon says the purchase of the Manitowoc Crane Company facility for production of parts will allow them to expand into a different labor market for workers. Randy Radtke is the Media Relations Manager for Alliance. He says it is challenging finding enough workers for their facility in Ripon. “We’ve struggled locally in Ripon to fill positions consistently you know the Fox Valley historically has been a fairly tight market so we are consistently dealing with 100, 100-plus  openings.” He says when they open the facility in Manitowoc they will be able to increase their capacity and maintain good quality jobs locally. Alliance expects to create up to 250 new jobs with the opening of the Manitowoc facility. The facility is expected to open early next month.

He also recommended increasing jail staff by four employees. The California consulting firm’s report noted that despite the county’s size, deputy response times are excellent. The full county board will be briefed on the report at their August 20th meeting.
